The focus of today’s slide show is North India from Mumbai to Varanasi. The show begins with some geography about the region, starting from the 2000 year old history of the capital city of Delhi, continue on to the business capital of India the large city of Mumbai (previously Bombay) and its large entertainment industry popularly known as ‘Bollywood’. See the largest monolith in the world at Ajanta and Ellora Caves. Continue to Gujarat where we will see Mahatma Gandhi’s Ashram, incredible Sun temple of Modhera and more.

We will drive to the colorful state of Rajasthan where our first stop is the romantic city of Udaipur with lakes, hills and enormous Forts and palaces, see the art of 500 year old exquisite marble carvings at the Jain temple in Ranakpur, see the blue city of Jodhpur then continue on the Pink City of Jaipur with its beautiful palaces and forts. Sample India’s wildlife at Ranthambore National Park. We then travel to Agra the city of mesmerizing Taj Mahal. Our next stop is the temple city of Khajuraho with its 22 temples from 10th century with their erotic carvings. Finally, we stop at the oldest city in India, Varanasi on the banks of the Holy River Ganges. We will visit Sarnath where Buddha preached his first sermon.

If time permits, we change our focus to the Indian Himalayas visiting Kashmir, Ladakh, overland trip from Leh to Manali, Kullu and its famous Dussera Festival, Uttarakhand to see the source of River Ganges, Rishikesh-Haridwar and North Eastern States of Assam etc.
